Sicily / Noto

Noto is the best example of the late Baroque architecture in Sicily, which was rebuilt after the terrible earthquake of 1693 which ravaged this region.
Indeed, Noto and seven other cities of the valley are registered to the world heritage of UNESCO. In the case of Noto, the whole city was shaven.

The architect Giuseppe Lanza, duke of Camastra, had the responsibility to rebuild a new city, ten kilometers far from the old town. Many artists contributed at this work : Paolo Labisi, Vincenzo Sinatra, Rosario Gagliardi…
The urban plan is astonishing of precision with its parallel main street. The result is impressive: majestic palate, harmony of its squares, sets of prospects,…
One of the most beautiful expressions of the baroque.

Noto was registered with seven other cities of the south-east of Sicily to World Heritage of UNESCO as cities of the late baroque of the valley of Noto.
