Modica

Modica is a nice city with about 55 000 inhabitants near to Ragusa, it is built in long form on several levels where the oldest are the highest.

Its origins came back to prehistory and its region would have been settled in the XIVth BC by sicules' tribes.
This city was for a long time the most important of the region, before Ragusa, with its powerful Chiaramonte family until to the XIVth century.

Many monuments and churches came from middle-ages, as the baroc cathedral San Giorgio and the Spanish built under Spanish occupation.

Modica was included with other seven cities of sud-east Sicily in the UNESCO patrimony as baroc cities of the Noto' valley .
